What actually happens during an MOT

A plain-English walkthrough of the test and the common failure points.

The test covers brakes, tyres, lights, steering, suspension, exhaust emissions and the structural condition of the car. The most common failures are the cheapest to prevent: blown bulbs, worn wipers and under-inflated or worn tyres. Ten minutes of checks the week before saves a retest.
